DECS:Selected schools to suspend classes on SONA

handwash2(PNA) — Department of Education-National Capital Region (DepEd-NCR) Director Teresita Domalanta on Thursday said that twenty two elementary and secondary schools in Quezon City will have their classes suspended during President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s 9th State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 27.

She enumerated the schools: Cecilia Munoz Palma High School, Payatas A- Elementary School, Payatas-B Elementary School, Payatas B-Annex Elementary School, Payatas C-Elementary School, Commonwealth High School, Batasan National High School, Batasan Elementary School, Bagong Silangan High School, San Diego Elementary School, Holy Spirit Elementary School, Commonwealth High School-Holy Spirit Annex, Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School, Lupang Pangako Elementary School, Lagro Elementary School, Lagro High School, North Fairview Elementary School, Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School, Fairview Elementary School and Balara High School.

The NCR director said the temporary suspension would ensure the safety of students who might get caught in the planned protest actions by various civil society and cause-oriented groups opposed to the President’s SONA.

At the same time, he said they would also not get caught in traffic jams due to the protests and the re-routing which will be implemented by the Quezon City local government for the duration of the SONA.

The official said there is no reason to cancel the classes in the entire metropolis as the protest action will only be limited to several sites such as near the Batasan complex and Mendiola in Manila. (PNA)
